Exhibit [REDACTED] – [REDACTED] Interview Symbolic Alignment
Feel The Heat
Exhibit Overview
At the time of this event, I was a relatively new employee at my current workplace when a recruiter contacted me about what seemed to be a promising job opportunity. We agreed to meet at a nearby Starbucks for what I expected would be a standard interview.
Instead, the meeting quickly took on an unusual tone — more like an interrogation than an interview. During our conversation, a man entered the Starbucks who immediately drew my attention.
He was dressed as a homeless person — unkempt coat, old hat — but something about him didn’t fit. His clean cut hair, his clothes underneath were clean, and his shoes — new penny loafers. That’s why I remembered him, it was clear he was cosplaying.
Years later, I saw this same man again — this time at my church. He and his wife had joined a small group I was part of and began integrating themselves into my social circle. It took me some time to realize who he was, but once I recognized him as the same “homeless” man from the Starbucks meeting, the connection became undeniable.
The FBI sticker on the back of his car confirmed what I already suspected.
This exhibit documents that Starbucks encounter, and is also one of the earliest examples of symbolic targeting — graffiti that appeared near my office immediately after this incident — a personal and unmistakable message drawn directly from a private metaphor I had shared with very few other people.
